Hey Changemakers!
October is Polio Awareness Month in Rotary! Polio is a highly contagious viral infection that can cause paralysis. Symptoms can include fever, headache, sore throat, muscle weakness or pain, an paralysis. There is no cure for polio once contracted. Treatment focuses on managing symptoms and preventing complications. However, there is a very effective vaccine for it.
Rotary was a pioneer in the fight against polio and started efforts in 1978 with a very ambitious goal to reach a polio-free world. Rotary has helped immunize more than 2.5 billion people against polio since then. This effort includes both financial contributions and countless volunteer hours from Rotary members worldwide. In 2024, more than 5,000 clubs organized nearly 8,000 awareness actions in 142 countries. The Changemakers Board is organizing an awareness campaign about Rotary and its efforts to eradicate polio. There will be 5 questions on our Facebook members’ page. The first 5 members to submit the correct answers will have $50 donated to Polio Plus in their names. Kinda like Trivia Night, but on your own time.
The questions will be posted after our October 3rd monthly meeting. Join us for fellowship at 7:30 am with the meeting following at 8 am. October 24th is World Polio Day and during the monthly meeting you will find out about Rotary’s goal to have a Polio Free World and how close we are to accomplishing this. We can also register our club for the Polio Day of Action and possibly featured on Rotary International social media pages.
Trivia at your own pace! All you need to do is answer a few easy Rotary questions from our Facebook members’ page. Ready, Set, Go!
