Changemakers Rotary Club

Club President Message August 11th

Club Members -

Hope everyone is enjoying the last few weeks of summer!  I am enjoying the cooler weather lately....I can get outside and bicycle without drinking my weight in water!  Ha.

News:
Has everyone received their 'Welcome to Rotary!' email from Brian King at Rotary International?  Please take some to read the email and log into your online accounts and verify your information.  This is a great opportunity to check out Rotary and see what events are coming up to get involved.

A few announcements:
1.  The September meeting is cancelled due to the Labor Day Holiday!  Enjoy the Weekend!  We will be hosting a Club Assembly day for our October Regular meeting instead of having a guest speaker.  We will be discussing our club future and what you want/hope to see in our future for the club.  An open discussion.  Please plan on attending and having your thoughts heard!

2.  Your Board is also working on assembling a committee to put together an Orientation for our membership.  We intend to share with our 'new to Rotary' members - what is Rotary and what is possible for you being a part of this club!  Everyone will be invited to join.  I am looking forward to learning more and having some fun too!

If anyone wants to get more involved in our club, feel free to reach out to me!

See everyone at the Oct meeting for Club Assembly!

LeRoy

La Clinica Service Project

Changemakers Rotary Health and Hygiene Appeal
Benefitting Family Health La Clinica

“Imagine a world that deserves our best where we get up each day knowing that we can make a difference.” Jennifer Jones, President, Rotary International Changemakers Rotary Club is a group of people who share this passion about what it means to serve our neighbors, our community our world. In partnership with Rotarians around the globe, we are creating a more peaceful world through humanitarian service. Ranging from a worldwide campaign to eradicate polio to local projects, Rotarians are improving the health, well-being and overall quality of life by partnering with reputable people and organizations who share this passion.

In central Wisconsin, the lack of basic health care for migrant farm workers spawned the formation of a community health center in the 1960s to ensure that this workforce and their families had access to basic care. Today. Family Health La Clinica (FHLC) serves people throughout 10 central Wisconsin counties regardless of their economic status. The need for FHLC’s services has expanded beyond migrant farm workers to include people from all occupations who do not have access to the healthcare they need. Many families are struggling to make ends meet. The cost and availability of diapers, basic hygiene, healthy food, and medical supplies are a significant burden for many working families. Giving families access to these basic supplies helps them to be healthier and be productive in school or work.

Changemakers Rotary Club is raising funds to help supply personal hygiene and medical supplies for people in need. People who cannot afford basic hygiene or medical supplies have increased risk to develop chronic disease and perform poorly at work and school. Those conditions are an obstacle to being productive self-supporting members of our communities. Helping our neighbors in need is part of strong communities and healthy economies.

Your support for this fundraising drive will make the difference for a child, a family, or a migrant worker to live a healthy happy life. Our goal is to raise $10,000 by August 31 to provide the medical, dental and therapy professionals at FHLC with supplies for the clients they serve.

Description: A trip to Guatemala next year to get to know our fellow Rotarians and their families, do service projects, see the sights and have some fun!

As many of you know, we are planning a trip to Guatemala next year to get to know our fellow Rotarians and their families, do service projects, see the sights and have some fun! Gary and Ana and I met with Alvaro and Patrick over zoom last week and together we planned a tentative  itinerary for January 12-22 that Patrick has attached here. Patrick has included a breakdown of the cost per person for the amazing trip he has planned for us that you'll find at the end of the attached itinerary. We priced air travel costs at around $500/person, but obviously that can vary. Please look over the itinerary carefully because there are lots of options included to facilitate designing your trip for your comfort level. What we would like to know at this planning stage is how many of you feel interested in going on this trip. No commitment required just yet
